Placing our Trust in God

'Happy the man who places his trust in the Lord' #Psalm1:1-4,6

Jeremiah in the first reading today reminds us that anyone who places his trust in the Lord, with the Lord for his hope is 'like a tree by the waterside that thrusts its roots to the stream; when the heat comes, it feels no alarm, its foliage stays green; it has no worries in a year of drought, and never ceases to bear fruit' #Jeremiah17: 5-10. Throughout scripture, we are told that we have to place God first in our lives if we are to lead good and holy lives. God wants us to live in abundance and wants to give us all that is good. However life is a series of light and darkness, of ups and downs, some circumstances and events of our own making and others imposed on us. Through all of these ups and downs, the Lord is calling us to be steadfast in Him, to trust Him, affirming that when we remain in Him, all is well, all is as it should be. It can be difficult to discern truth and not be distracted by worldly concerns and worries, however this is all the more reason to listen to God's voice in our hearts.

Today, let us listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit deep in our hearts, that all we think and do today will be a reflection of God's glory and love.
